Email deliverability test
Check the four records that decide whether your mail lands in the inbox: mail servers, SPF, DKIM and DMARC, at once.
What this checks
Four records, read at once.
Mail servers
The MX records that say where replies go. A domain that cannot take mail back looks like a spammer to the servers it writes to.
SPF
The list of servers allowed to send as you, and whether it stays under the limit of ten DNS lookups that breaks it silently.
DKIM
The key that lets the receiving server check your signature. We try the eleven selectors most mail providers use.
DMARC
What happens to mail that fails, and whether reports come back. Gmail and Yahoo require it from bulk senders.
How to fix it
Fix what fails, then the gaps.
Most domains need one or two records added. These are the steps in the order that gets mail to the inbox soonest.
- 01
Fix whatever fails first
A missing record is the one that costs you. Open the full check for that line, copy the record it gives you and add it in your DNS panel.
- 02
Then close the gaps
Gaps are things like SPF ending in ~all, DMARC at p=none or a short DKIM key. Mail still arrives, but these are what tip it into spam as you send more.
- 03
Run the test again in an hour
DNS changes show once the old record's time to live has passed, usually within the hour. Run the test again and every line should turn to a tick.
Questions
The things people ask next.
Does this send a test email?+
No. It reads the four DNS records that receiving servers check before they trust your mail. It can't see your sending reputation or the words in your messages, which also affect where mail lands.
Why does my mail go to spam when all four pass?+
The records prove the mail is really from you. After that, servers look at your sending history, how many people open or mark it as spam, and links in the message. A new domain that sends a lot at once is the most common cause.
Which of the four matters most?+
Since 2024 Gmail and Yahoo turn away bulk mail without SPF or DKIM and without a DMARC record. Fix those first. Mail servers matter because replies and bounce notices have to go somewhere.
What does the DKIM line mean if no key is found?+
We try the selectors most providers use. If yours uses another one, open the full DKIM check and type the selector your provider gave you. It is in their setup guide, or in the header of a message you sent.
